The ACCC brought a case concerning the currency displayed on Airbnb accommodation bookings made by Australian consumers between January 2018 and August 2021. Airbnb admitted that its interface sometimes used a dollar symbol without adequately distinguishing US dollars from Australian dollars. The regulator said about 70,000 consumers had bookings charged in US currency when the presentation suggested Australian dollars.
